Knowing Your Audience is Key for Real Estate Bloggers

blogging.JPGBlogging is quickly becoming an important part in establishing an online presence for real estate professionals in Canada.

For those who don’t know, a blog is basically a website. It differs from a regular real estate website in that its content is updated on a regular basis with news, comments, musings, etc. – whatever the blog owner wants to write about!

Real estate blogs are effective at ‘driving’ a targetted audience of Internet surfers to your website through appearances on search engine results, like Google or Yahoo. They also acts as a great way to reach out to a community and foster open communication with your clients and/or social/business network.

Either way, it is important for real estate professionals to know their desired audience before starting a blog.

Some real estate service providers use blogs to promote their products and/or services by posting content (news, pictures, video) that may be relevant and interesting to their client base.

For example, at Base 10 Web Solutions, we scan the news and follow interesting trends on our blog as they relate to marketing real estate for sale on the Internet. At the same time, we hope our readers will take note of our UniqueHomeSites product, as we truly believe that our single property websites will benefit those readers who are interested in our postings.

Real estate agents typically use blogs to post community information, homebuying tips, and market statistics, in order to direct potential homebuyers and sellers on the Internet to their real estate services.

By making regular postings, which are relevant to a target or niche market, the chances of a real estate agent blogger’s name appearing on search engine results will increase, thereby reinforcing them as the industry expert in a particular niche area.

Examples of real estate agent blogs include the Edmonton Real Estate Blog,  published by Coldwell Banker Johnston real estate agents Sara MacLennan and Sheldon Johnston.

Collingwood Real Estate agent Marg Scheben-Edey also has a real estate blog worth checking out for ideas.

Meanwhile, real estate brokers, such as Ken McLachlan, Broker for ReMax Hallmark Realty in Toronto, use a blog to stay in touch with their agents by posting recent news, motivational quotes, updates from the real estate board, holiday get-togethers, etc.

    Great fodder for real estate agents for their blogs is anything “locally” relevant.
    What new stores are coming in and how will that effect your town?
    What is going on with mortgages in your area- any great programs for first time buyers out there?
    Any closings that almost didn’t make it and you were able to turn them around through hard work- tell about it.
    Any listings that have an interesting story (some older homes have many interesting stories)?
    Tips on buying a local short sale or foreclosure- how do you find these- what should you be wary of.

    Also, I went on the HelpMyAgent Blog, which appears to be new.

    Another great resource is The Real Estate Tomato. Folks on ActiveRain have been able to reach, connect and make relationships with other real estate agents across the country.
